Author Guidelines

Submission Rules

1- General rules

All abstracts will be submitted through the congress web page by 15st June 2019. Click on the link below to submit an abstract.  The authors can follow the abstract notifications by logging in at https://2019.uhsk.org/.

Studies previously published in any national or international journals will not be accepted. Studies previously presented in national or international events within the last two years, other than the activities of HASUDER, will be accepted if the presented date(s) and event(s) are provided.

 

Abstracts must be prepared according to the “Guidelines for Authors” section below.

All submitted abstracts will be assessed. However, at least one of the authors must register until 15th October 2019 and pay the congress registration fee in order to publish their abstracts in the congress book. Otherwise, the abstract will not be included in the congress book.

A notification email will be sent within 7 (seven) work days to the corresponding author declaring that their abstract was received. If they don’t receive such an email, they should contact the Editorial Board.

Deadline is 15th September 2019 for abstract submission. For the abstracts that have been selected as an oral presentation, the author can choose to publish in full text. In this case, the full text of the abstract should be submitted till 30thSeptember 2019.

Papers must be appropriate for public health themes. Proceedings could be included under the following topics.

If the abstract is accepted, the authors agree that they have given permission to publish their papers electronically in the congress book and on the sites that belong to HASUDER.

 

2- Types of studies

Quantitative, qualitative research or reviews could be sent to congress as an abstract.

 

3- Types of presentation

Types of presentation could be as a poster or an oral presentation. The corresponding author must indicate the type of presentation in which he/she wants to present the study as an “oral presentation /poster”. However, at the time of application, it should be foreseen that all oral presentation requests cannot be met due to the limited number of proceedings will be accepted as oral presentation. The papers that cannot be accepted as oral presentations will be assessed as poster presentations.

 

A notification email will be sent to the corresponding authors about abstracts which are assessed by the Scientific Advisory Board and which are not accepted or which cannot be presented due to the impossibilities. The corresponding authors will be informed about the presentation types (oral / poster) before 30thSeptember 2019 and these results will also be announced on the official website of the Congress.

Poster presentations will be held as pitch presentations. A five-minute presentation will be held with a moderator of a nominated faculty member, followed by a discussion. Pitch presentations must be prepared in 70 cm (horizontal) x100 cm (vertical) size. It is expected that posters will be prepared in accordance with the rules of abstract presentation (introduction and purpose, materials and methods, results, discussion and recommendations and references). The presentations will be in digital format. For the pitch presentations, the authors will be asked to be near to their posters at the specified time.

Oral presentations must not exceed 12 slides and 10 minutes (8 minutes of presentation, 2 minutes of question-answer-discussion) in accordance with the abstract preparation rules. If the authors want to publish their manuscripts of oral presentations, they may be published as full texts in the congress book.

 

Guidelines for Author's

The abstracts will be assessed by at least two reviewers of the Congress Scientific Committee. Reviewers will assess the abstracts with standard assessment forms for quantitative and qualitative studies. The decision (acceptance / correction / rejection of the abstracts) will be according to the reviewers’ assessments and the editorial board. If a correction is needed, authors must re-submit it after correction of abstracts in a week. The corrections must be submitted in MS Word format using the “track changes button” and written in red.

It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that the sections of the manuscript or the place of the study are not included in the abstract or full text. If the abstracts of the reviews are written by at least one specialized and experienced author (at least one of which has at least three publications published in journals scanned by international indexes), the abstract is taken into consideration. In the process of submitting the paper, the author should also state the bulletins of the published publications on the subject. All abstracts have a limit of 400 words. Tables, figures, visuals or references should not be given in the abstract format. The title of the manuscript should be as clear and as short as to reflect the content of the study, and should not exceed 99 characters and should be capitalized. Abbreviations should not be used. Name and surname of the authors without specifying the titles, the relevant section of the form should be written with the "Add an author" option, the authors should not use abbreviations in the institution names. There should not be an author and institution name in the text.

The abstract should be structured as “Introduction and Aim”, Materials and Methods”, “Results” and “Discussion and Recommendations”. In the “Introduction and Purpose” section, the aim of this study should be stated clearly. In “Materials and Methods” section; type of research, time, place and sociodemographic characteristics, criteria related to the inclusion of cases, population and sample, dependent and independent variables, used tools and measurement standards, validity and reliability of measurement method, used statistical methods in research and research ethics should be specified. In the “Results” section, the results of the study should be stated clearly and comprehensibly, impartially and without comment, considering the purpose of the study and the hypotheses/research questions. In the “Conclusions and Recommendations” section, the conclusion should be explained in a few sentences based on the results of the study. The implications exceed the purpose of the study and the results obtained should be avoided, and new questions or constructive recommendations should be prepared. The number of keywords should not to be less than 3 and more than 5.

If there is financial support from any source for the study, this support should be specified clearly. All authors are required to report as a footnote at the end of the abstract section, whether they have a conflict of interest with any institution or organization.

If the authors want to publish their manuscripts of oral presentations, they may be published as full texts in the congress book. Full text manuscripts will be re-assessed by the editors and must be written according to the following rules.

 

Full-text submission rules

• Manuscripts must be written in MS Word (docx) format, in A4 size (21 cm x 29.7 cm), vertically, with margins 2.5 cm.

• It must be written in 12-point, Times New Roman font, with a single line spacing within paragraphs and between paragraphs.

• Name(s) and surname(s) of the authors (the first letter of names and surnames will be in capital without titles of authors) must be written under the research title in the manuscripts, which are accepted as oral presentation first, then submitted as full text.

• The sections must be as follows: Abstract (must be in accordance with the above abstract text format), keywords (minimum 3, maximum 5), introduction, method, results, discussion, conclusions and recommendations, references. The main text including the sections of introduction, method, results, discussion, conclusions and recommendations (excluding abstract) must be at least 1500 words and not exceed 2500 words. Maximum two tables or figures and maximum of 10 references are allowed in the full text. Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively in the text.

• First degree section headings should be in uppercase and bold, second degree and other subheadings should be written as the first letter is capital letter and words are bold. References must be numbered in the main text as superscript in an order where they are used in the main text. All authors must be specified if there are no more than six authors in a reference, names of the first three authors must be written and the others must be referred with “et al.” abbreviation in case of more than six authors in a reference. Index Medicus abbreviations must be used for journal names. Articles that are in the assessment phase cannot be specified as a reference; they could only be expressed in the main text. Personal considerations may be cited as a reference; if their source, date and contact form are specified (if available e-mail, provide the address of the sender). References should be listed as defined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Turkish keywords must be checked from "Turkish Science Terms", English keywords must be checked from the Medical Subject Headings of Index Medicus.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  1. The submission has not been previously published (in any national or international journal), nor is it before another conference for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Director).
  2. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Conference.
  3. If submitting to a peer-reviewed track of the conference, authors' names are removed from submission, with "Author" and year used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of authors' name, paper title, etc.
  4. If submitting to peer review, all Microsoft Office documents (including Supplementary Files) have been saved by going to File and selecting Save As; clicking Tools (or Options in a Mac); clicking Security; selecting "Remove personal information from file properties on save"; clicking Save.
